Major General Peter D. Utley is the Chief, U.S. Military Training Mission to Saudi Arabia, U.S. Central Command, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

MG Peter D. Utley, who hails from Philadelphia, Pa., is a Distinguished Military Graduate of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. Utley was commissioned as a second lieutenant of Armor in May 1982. Throughout his career he has served in Army units in the United States, Germany and Iraq.

His principle staff assignments have been as Operations Officer 2nd Squadron, 4th Cavalry, 24th Infantry Division (Mechanized) at Fort Stewart, Ga., and Iraq (Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm); Operations Officer 3rd Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Polk, La., and Haiti (Operation Uphold Democracy); and Operations Officer 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Polk; U.S. Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.; and The Army Staff at the Pentagon. He served as the Chief of Staff for the U.S. Army Armor Center and Fort Knox in Kentucky; the Chief of Staff for the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Hood, Texas, and Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom 07-09) and the in the Directorate of Training, Department of the Army G3/5/7 at the Pentagon.

He commanded Alpha Troop, 2nd Squadron, 4th Cavalry Squadron, 24th Infantry Division at Fort Stewart; 2nd Battalion, 63rd Armor Regiment, 1st Infantry Division at Vilseck, Germany, and former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia (Operation Joint Guardian), the 1st Armored Training Brigade at Fort Knox, Ky and the U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command.

Prior to becoming the Chief of Mission U.S. Military training mission he served as the Commander of U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command.

Utley is a graduate of the Armor Officer Basic Course; Armor Officer Advanced Course; Army Command and General Staff College; Armed Forces Staff College; and the Naval War College. He holds a Bachelor of Science in biology from The Citadel and a Master of Arts in national security and strategic studies from the Naval War College.

His awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal; Legion of Merit with three Oak Leaf Clusters; Bronze Star Medal with OLC; Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal with three OLCs; Army Commendation Medal with three OLCs; Joint Service Achievement Medal; Army Achievement Medal with OLC; Parachutist Badge; Air Assault Badge; and Army Staff Identification Badge.
